Dou-gou ma koro bao-de     And it will take a long time
yiriba do-ye     to replace it. The big tree
Yiriba bini yan-toro.     Has fallen & will be missed.

E YIRI BINI YAN-TORO     Oh, the big tree has fallen.
YAKUBA COULIBALY     Yakuba Coulibaly,
tunye yiriba do-ye     he was the big tree.
Yiriba bini yan-toro     (The big tree has fallen.)

Yiriba ye, yiriba ye     The big tree, the big tree
E yiri bini yan-toro     has fallen in the forest.
Dou-gou ma koro bao-de     And it will take a long time
yiriba do-ye     to replace it. The big tree.
Yiriba bini yan-toro.     Has fallen & will be missed.

*This spelling is phonetic, and not the original Bambara spelling. This song has many different lyrics. This represents only part of the original song (the part we played on the radio in Mali). In our recording, we dedicated the song to Seydou Coulibaly (master dancer from Mali now faculty at Brown University) by honoring his parents who have passed away.

¿Dónde está mi corazón? (an original composition by Lindsey Schust)
¿Dónde está mi corazón? (Where is my heart? My heart is in Cuba)

¿Dónde está mi corazón?     Where is my heart?
¿Dónde está mi corazón?     Where is my heart?
Mi corazón se fue (se fue).     My heart has gone (it's gone).
No está conmigo,     It isn't with me.
¡No está aquí!     It isn't here!

¿Dónde está mi corazón?     Where is my heart?
¿Dónde está mi corazón     Where is my heart??
Mi corazón se fue (se fue).     My heart has gone (it's gone).
No está conmigo,     It isn't with me.
¡No está aquí!     It isn't here!

Mi corazón está en Cuba,

    My heart is in Cuba,
Cuba, sí Cuba.     Cuba, yes, Cuba.
Porque me encanta     Because I love
la música cubana.     Cuban music.
Me quiero ir a Cuba. . .     I want to go to Cuba. . .
Para bailar la rumba,     To dance the rhumba,
Para comer la buena comida     To eat good food.
(¡yo quiero ir!).     (I want to go!)

¿Dónde está tu corazón?     Where is your heart?
¿Dónde está?     Where is it?
(x 3)

¿Dónde está tu corazón?     Where is your heart?
¿Dónde está? ¿Dónde?     Where is it? Where?

¿Dónde está mi corazón?     Where is my heart?
¿Dónde está mi corazón?     Where is my heart?
Mi corazón se fue (se fue).     My heart has gone (it's gone).
No está conmigo,     It isn't with me.
¡No está aquí!     It isn't here!
(x2)

¡Mi corazón está en Cuba!

    My heart is in Cuba.
Porque me encanta     Because I love
la música cubana. . .     Cuban music. . .
¡CUBANA!     Cuban!

La música ¡CUBANA, CUBANA!     Cuban music! Cuban!
La gente ¡CUBANA, CUBANA!     The Cuban people! Cuban!

La comida ¡CUBANA, CUBANA!     Cuban food! Cuban!
La batería ¡CUBANA, CUBANA!     Cuban drumming! Cuban!

La poesía ¡CUBANA, CUBANA!     Cuban poetry! Cuban!
La cultura ¡CUBANA, CUBANA!     Cuban culture! Cuban!

La hermosura ¡CUBANA, CUBANA!     Cuban beauty! Cuban!
La melodía ¡CUBANA, CUBANA!     The Cuban melody! Cuban!

¿Dónde está mi corazón?     Where is my heart?
¿Dónde?     Where?
